Chinese fruits such as cystoids, kaempferia, and flower red are thought to be Chinese native apple varieties or apple-like fruits. The cultivation records of apple in China can be traced back to the Western Han Dynasty. In the reign of Emperor Wudi of Han, Chinese apple trees and kaempferia ferries were cultivated in Shanglin Garden. Most of them were used to smoke clothes.
